The Flywheel Methodology

Your flywheel may be seen as a need, a desire or a requirement that needs to be set in motion. This could come from within an organization, within a team or from within you. Building up to the right drive can be achieved by taking things step by step to reach the ultimate flywheel effect. Once your flywheel has found momentum, a multitude of energy is released. Now imagine that your task is to get the flywheel rotating on the axle as fast and long as possible.

With great effort, you get the flywheel to inch forward. Through persistent effort, you get the flywheel to complete one entire turn. With continued great effort, you move it around a second rotation. Consistency pays off and so the wheel turns three times, 4, 8, 16, 32 turns. Breakthrough! The momentum of the thing kicks in in your favour, hurling the flywheel forward. It’s working for you! You’re pushing no harder than during the first rotation, but the flywheel goes faster and faster.

Each turn of the flywheel builds upon work done earlier, compounding your investment of effort. We’ve allowed the way transitions look from the outside to drive our perception of what they must feel like to those going through them on the inside. From the outside, they look like dramatic, almost revolutionary breakthroughs. But from the inside, they feel completely different, more like an organic development process.

I need little time onboarding and my pragmatic approach will ensure an efficient and productive cooperation. I enjoy complexities and positive chaos and manage to find the leading thread quickly.

Since 2013, I have been working as an independent consultant and facilitator on organizational as well as individual transition processes. I have a strong preference for delivering a customized approach, as I tend to be a little averse to customary methods.

My professional experience was gained in the field of HR Management at larger multinationals as well as smaller Dutch companies. I graduated at the renowned International School of Hotel management in The Hague, specialised in Organizational Development. I continue to be inspired by the potential developments of people and organization, which was reconfirmed during my recent studies on these topics at the respected management institutes De Baak and Nijenrode.

Co-lead successful CLA negotiations for a large division in Belgium. Lead the tactical execution of a Marketing re-organization on time and in budget in order to better align the structure with strategy and achieve cost savings. Lead the tactical execution of the integration of 2 large EU headquarters from different divisions by effectively managing the Works Council process, Social Plan negotiations workforce reductions, transfers and promotions. Implemented fundamental performance management components to ensure appropriate improvement plans were in place.
